From Panic to Pattern: Making Feedback Routine, Not Reactive
Most managers don’t avoid feedback because they don’t care. They avoid it because they wait.
They wait for more evidence. They wait for the right time. They hope the issue resolves itself. And by the time the conversation finally happens, frustration has built, employees are surprised, and what could have been a simple discussion becomes a difficult one.
In this practical session, Joe Rotella, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CPBA, explores why feedback often breaks down, and not because managers lack skill, but because they lack a consistent pattern for having performance conversations. Participants will learn how to replace reactive feedback with a simple management rhythm built around five essential conversations: setting expectations, checking progress, recognizing success, course correcting, and following through.
Attendees will discover how regular, timely conversations reduce surprises, strengthen accountability, improve performance, and make annual reviews far less stressful for everyone involved. Joe will also introduce the SBIN feedback model and share simple tools managers can use immediately to create a culture of clarity, coaching, and continuous improvement.
Because performance problems rarely begin with bad intentions; they begin with delayed conversations.
This program is pre-approved for 1 PDC for the SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® and 1 recertification credit hour for the PHR® or SPHR®. A certificate of completion will be provided to all attendees.
